R.I.P. Buster "Jimmy" Tanner

Saturday we found out that Buster our cat had been attacked and killed by Coyotes in the neighborhood. He had been missing for about a week. He was an awesome cat and will be missed. We love you Buster!

Off to school...

Yesterday was a historical day at our home. Daniel went to his first day of Kindergarten. We took some photos the night before and shot a little video asking him if he was excited. Of course he was.

In the morning Karen made his lunch and I loaded up his backpack. Karen and I drove him to school and walked him to class. He was on fire with excitement.

After school we picked him up and got all the details of his day. It sounds like the playground was a hit and he learned to play "color tag". If a color is called that you are wearing you have to run from whoever is "it".

Daniel also told us that he knew several kids from Goddard and had a few in his class. Sounds like we are off to a great year at Woodbrook.

We landed in Orlando yesterday and made our way to the condo in the rental car. Once at the condo we went straight to the pool.

I told Daniel to make sure he didn't pee in the pool because they had chemicals in it that would turn the water blue. He said... "OK Daddy, I won't pee in the pool." quickly followed by "Daddy is the water blue around me?".Today we went out on a morning airboat ride with Big Toho Airboat Rides. We saw an alligator and some endangered birds. After the ride, Daniel and I got to hold a 1 year old alligator. It was pretty cool.

After the ride, we headed off to the House of Blues for the Gospel Brunch. Daniel had a great time and the food was good.

Tomorrow we head off for the Magic Kingdom!

Ribfest 2008

It's almost Labor Day and that can mean only one thing... it's just about time for the 4th Annual Tanner RibFest!

The competition will be fierce with a few newcomers as well as the normal competition. Blake threw down a trial run last weekend at the lake on his new smoker. They were pretty good, but he already has some ideas for improvements.

Karen and I have a recipe from her Dad, but we are going to be winging it on Sunday!

In addition to the rib competition, this year we are having a competition for best side dish and best dessert. It should be a great weekend.

Bonnethead Shark Action

Yesterday while I was snoozing on the patio Karen saw a dolphin swim right up to the dock. Shortly there after, I was standing on the boat trying to spot him and he shot up out of the water. It was something like you'd see at Sea World without the flaming hoops. It was pretty clear that the dolphins were hunting fish in the inter coastal. I immediately said "We should be fishing right now."

Today Karen bought some bait. Good old frozen squid. I baited up 3 rods and shortly there after we had our first catfish on the line. This was quite encouraging since the past three years down here they have had the "red tide" and fishing has been poor.

While Karen was feeding Daniel lunch inside, I landed what I thought was a huge cat. Until I got it close to the surface... it was actually a shark! Sweeeeet! I thought it was a hammerhead. But when Marnie got home she quickly pointed out that it was a Shovelhead (also known as a Bonnethead Shark).

We released it, but it came back up to the seawall and was just kind of floating around. I poked it with the net and it swam away - then it came back... It was dying. I pulled it back out of the water and had a talk with him. He said it was cool and that we could smoke him. So Brad gutted the dude and we put him on ice to be cut into steaks later tonight.

Daniel's Birthday Party

Rocking it with the kids... Daniel and 50 of his best friends partied down today in the backyard. The party went off without a hitch. Karen put together a table full of food with chicken salad sandwiches, ham sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, fruit, veggies, cheese, dip, chips... need I say more?

Our awesome new neighbors, the Clarks loaned their inflatable bouncer. It was a huge hit.

Daniel took in more presents than he got at Christmas and has been checking them out all night.

Wheeltags... Matt's new little project

We finally got the new product idea off the ground. For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, Kevin, Jenn and I started a company making after market decals for high end bicycle wheels. The company is called Wheeltags.

Interest has been through the roof. We've already had a meeting with a large bike company from Philly that wants us to do a custom job for 2 athletes going to the Olympics and 1 going to Ironman Hawaii. We've been asked to be featured in Triathlete Magazine. And finally, we've been approached by the largest wheel manufacturer to discuss a "business partnership". Things are looking good.

Daniel pays Santa a visit

Tonight we had the joy of taking our son to see Santa. This is the first year that he's been really hyped up for Christmas. He went right up to Santa and jumped on his lap. Then he cheesed for the camera. What a kid. Even the lady taking the photo was smiling as the photos came up on the computer screen. More photos should be available in the photos section to the right.

What a busy week. Last Wednesday the movers came and loaded everything we've been packing for weeks. On Thursday we closed on our old and new houses. Thursday afternoon, the movers unloaded everything we own. It was insane. The movers did a great job. We only found one serving dish broken and we think it was due to our poor packing!

Friday and Saturday we worked non-stop unpacking and figuring out just the right spot for everything. Saturday we also went to ACE hardware and bought a Christmas tree! Yeah, we really poured it on.

Since then, I've changed out 3 light fixtures and replaced a dimmer switch that I blew when installing one of the lights. BAH!

This weekend I want to try to get started on painting the basement. It will be a bigger job than it looks. I have to mask off the entire ceiling and all of the wood shelves that we don't want painted. I also have to peel all the wallpaper off the top half of all the walls. Norm has loaned me his power sprayer, so painting should be the easy part.

The big news this week was we've sold our house! ...and we bought a house! Our house sold in just under two weeks. Not bad in this market. I'd give the credit to our quick success to the amazing team at The Bonwell Tanner Group of Keller Williams!

The house we bought is near our good friend Holly and her girls Claire and Reece. It is in Brookshire which is just north west of 116th and Grey in Carmel. (here is a map)

Our new house has tons of storage and a much more manageable yard. We've already got plans in our heads for renovations and knocking out walls and paint colors and on and on... but we'll take our time with the projects.

Brown County State Park

This afternoon we took a family trip down to Brown County State Park for a little hike and some fun in the fall leaves. The colors were pretty amazing (although we think they will probably peak next weekend).

We did a 1.2 mile hike around a lake. Then we hit the country store for some ice cream followed up by a little swinging and sliding at the play ground. After all that, we were pretty spent and drove back to the lake house to clean up and head back home.

Country Market Pumpkin Fest

This afternoon we went up to the Country Market on 421 and met Shannon, Blake, Eli, Noni and Poppi for some bluegrass music and fall fun.

Daniel had fun running around and checking out the animals and playing in the "corn pit". Eli was in a trance with the ponies.

Karen and I agree the most impressive part of the afternoon was the kettle corn. Whoa... it was gooooooood.

Well, we are just about ready to put the house on the market. We've been working hard getting the house cleaned up and finishing all the little projects we started but never completed.

Today we took photos of all of the rooms in the house and Karen is going to get it into the MLS system this week. We've posted the photos in our photo gallery if you are bored and wanted to see what our house looks like when it is clean.

closets organized and rooms painted

This weekend Karen and I spent another weekend organizing things around the house and painting. Preparing your house to go on the market sure is a lot of work. I don't think either of us knew we were signing up for this.

Shannon and Blake took Daniel for a few hours Saturday and Sunday. That really helped out and we got quite a bit done.

Daniels room is finished (ok, I still have to hang photos). Karen and I both have our closets painted and organizers installed. Clothes be hangin'.

I took about 10 bags of clothes to Goodwill today. I also dumped about 1/2 of a concrete water fountain from our back yard in a dumpster. I'm not saying which dumpster. The other 1/2 still remains by our mailbox since the trash service wouldn't take it.

We still have to touch up paint in the kitchen and clean up the basement a little bit. Our goal was to put the house up on Wednesday, but we've agreed that was too aggressive and have decided to delay it a week so we keep our sanity!

Fred Evans Prologue

I have a new client with Two Wheels Cycling. His name is Fred Evans. A few weeks ago we did a Prologue to find out some of his fitness benchmarks on the bike.

I had my new handy little toy with me and shot a little footage. Well, tonight I finally downloaded some video to my computer just to see how it works. Until I get my Two Wheels Cycling Blog up and rolling, I wanted to post this little video clip somewhere.

It's probably boring to about 90% of you out there, but if you are into cycling, training with power, or the CompuTrainer I'm sure that you'll just love it!

For Sale?? Maybe...

Looking back, our house was EXACTLY what we wanted when we got married. It had a huge yard and plenty of potential to do fun improvement projects and upgrades. At the time, we had plenty of room for all of our stuff (we actually ate on a card table for several months!) and we really enjoyed working in the yard.

Fast forward to now... With the addition of a wonderful 3 year old boy, the lake house, another dog, countless toys, and talks of a little baby girl in the future... Karen and I have been talking all summer about up sizing our home and down sizing our yard. We've even considered and looked at a few town homes.

This week Karen was on a Carmel home tour with her office looking at local homes for sale. Well, who would have thought that her partner (Randie Bonwell) would have a listing that looks perfect for us!?

The house is big and has a great open floor plan. The yard is very manageable (even with a push mower!). Even though the yard is small, directly across the street is a nature preserve that has lots of room for Daniel and friends to play. (see photo below)

Karen and I started working on getting our house ready for the market last night. We both know this may not be the house for us, but we won't know until we first sell ours. If it's meant to be then it will happen if not... we wait!

Our biggest concern at this point is leaving our great neighbors. All of the people that live around us are great people. That's hard to replace! We'll keep you posted.

Angry Squirrel

Yesterday at lunch I went for a bike ride on the Monon Trail. It was a nice sunny day and I wanted to get out and stretch my legs and get some fresh air. I rode down to Broad Ripple and then headed back north.

As I was approaching the Nora area a squirrel darted across the trail. He then came back and stopped in the middle of the trail. I swerved to the left and so did he. Then I cut right. So did he. I started to grab for my front break and I cut left one more time and he ran right under my front wheel.

He flipped up on his back and then ran in a circle and back off into the woods yelling profanities at me.

Once I realized I wasn't going to crash, I thought it was pretty funny.

Next time you are riding your bike on the trail, watch out for th angry squirrel.

Life at 3 ^1/2 is pretty fun. I'm in school 3 days a week at the Goddard in Carmel. Everyone says I'm the brightest kid in class but I don't let it go to my head. On Tuesday's we play on Tumble Bus and on Friday's I go to Express Kids.

This summer has really gone by fast. We've been at the lake house on most of the weekends and I've become quite a swimmer.

There are LOTS of cute pictures of me on this site. If you get a minute or two you should check them out. My parents always seem to have a camera in my face. I have a feeling that someday a few of these pictures will be brought out to embarrass me with my friends.

Cycling
Two Wheels has really started to take off over the past few months. We've picked up clients in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. We also received our first resume! Imagine that...

This year Kevin and I have started training and coaching with Power Meters. We both have the Powertap SL on Zipp 404's. It's some amazing stuff! The information we are gathering is so much more valuable than the standard HR data we used in the past for evaluating clients.

We've also made some changes with our coaching packages. Jenn and Kev have really thought this through. If you want some of our help check on our Services and Training Plans!

My 'back up' is a Trek 2300.
I also have a 1993 M500 Cannondale mountain bike that needs some serious work.
While pulling our Burley with the family, I ride my Giant Super Single. It looks like PeeWee Hermans bike, but I like it.

Currently, I'm the Creative Director at BitWise Solutions. I've been at BitWise since September of '97 building lots of websites and meeting lots of people. I used to keep track of all the sites I've worked on, but there are too many now.

Fun Stuff

Life sure has changed since becoming a mommy. Spending time with Daniel is now what is fun for us. Everyday there is a new thing he learns and he is getting smarter by the minute. We still enjoy going out occasionally, it is just that things are different now. We love going out to see all our friends at OPTs, but we can't stay out as late and we have to take it easier than in the olden days, if you know what I mean. We wouldn't trade our life now for anything!!!
